  • A step closer to smart vehicle in the future
SAIC Motor-CP and MG Sales (Thailand) the manufacturer and distributor of MG vehicles in Thailand today launched the i-SMART connectivity system with driver behavior learning and world’s first Thai language voice command. The new system showcase a new step towards a smart car offering enhanced level of convenience, comfort and safety to cater to the IT generation.

The i-SMART concept was born from SAIC’s vision to develop intelligence and the internet of things (IOT) for vehicles which compliments the company’s vision for new energy and car sharing.

Mr. Shi Guoyong, President of SAIC Motor – CP announced, “the automotive industry is continuously evolving and MG is committed to not only be a leader in new technologies, but to also invent technological applications in ways which no other car maker has ever done before. We are convinced that automotive technology must harmoniously integrate with our customers’ lifestyles. Therefore, we would like to offer an advanced vehicle-user interface that is easy to use to provide higher levels of convenience and safety whether or not they are inside or outside of the vehicle.”

Smart functions, user friendly and safe

For the first time in automotive industry, a Thai language voice command capability has been integrated in a vehicle. The user simply say “Hello MG” in Thai to activate the voice command system and control various functions including the entertainment system and satellite navigator thus enhancing safety as the driver has two hands on the steering wheel and not having to reach the dashboard to operate. I-Smart is also operable via the multifunction touch screen on the dashboard and even via an app on a mobile device.

MG fully embrace the Internet of Things to connect all of the consumers’ interactions, therefore the i-Smart system is designed to support the user even before, during and after a journey is made. The bespoke application on your mobile device act as a personal assistant to inform and gently remind user of schedules, suggest most suitable route, offer traffic report and even weather forecast – all to make for the most efficient and safest journey possible.

i-SMART can remotely start the car and turn on the air-conditioning via your mobile device before you enter your car to allow for a more comfortable atmosphere once you arrive. The application can even preset the destination on the onboard navigation computer so it can assist the driver to start his journey immediately.

During a journey, the MG i-SMART work to offer the user real-time vehicle information such as fuel level, battery condition, engine status, brake condition or even outside temperature to your mobile app. One reassuring feature is that in case of unusual vehicle movement, the app can instantly notify the user of suspected car theft.

Another feature of i-SMART is its ability to learn the driver’s driving habit using artificial intelligence to try to optimize driving efficiency in the future. For example, a driver drives from point A to point B on a daily basis, once the system recognize this repeating driving pattern, it may suggest a more efficient route the next time the driver start to drive to the same destination.

A step closer to smart vehicle in the long-term

The i-SMART connectivity system is highly future-proof as it be upgraded with firm wares throughout the vehicle useful life. This means that not only would the functions be optimized as time goes by, but new features and functions could be added to help the user enjoy more from the entertainment system or be able to set off on a journey more efficiently. Thus, the customer’s satisfaction can continually be assured way in to the future.

Mr. Pongsak Lertrudeewattanawong, Vice President of MG Sales (Thailand) added, “In this internet of Thing era, car users will be more familiar and adept at using such connectivity in the very near future. We want to establish the standard on automotive connectivity for a car is no longer just a vehicle to take us to a destination, but a personal assistant that offer us comfort, convenience and safety. We can achieve this by catering to the needs of each individual user with customizable user experience via i-SMART connectivity which will be integrated in new MG models that will be available in Thailand in the near future.”
