  • British car brand embraces “Internet of Things” era with innovative world-class communication system
  • inkaNet to be standard feature in entire MG product lineup in near future
  • inkaNet is not an application but a system

Bangkok, 25 June 2015 – MG Sales (Thailand) Co., Ltd, the distributor of “MG” automobiles in Thailand launched the “inkaNet”, an MG intelligent communication system innovation on mobile communication network at the Plaza Athenee hotel. The inkaNet system which integrates the MG driver and MG car, offers optimal convenience with three points of access to the system – smartphone, application and Call Center, while providing MG drivers with high security from real-time vehicle monitoring systems and remote vehicle diagnosis for quick problem detection and suggestions.

Mr. Wu Huan, President of SAIC Motor-CP, manufacturer of MG cars in Thailand, said, “inkaNet is the innovation of the future. It represents cutting-edge technology that reflects the arrival of a modern lifestyle categorically known as the “Internet of Things”, which simply put, is how society and people have become accustomed to the ‘connected’ world with their intelligent terminals that serve as crucial personal information centers. MG is fully aware of this global trend and therefore has developed and introduced “inkaNet” for the first time in 2010 in other key markets. Now, it’s time for MG to bring this tested and proven system to Thailand. inkaNet will provide the MG driver with great control of the car, anywhere, anytime.

“We believe ‘inkaNet’ is the new technological benchmark for Thailand’s automotive industry. This world-class communications system will be made standard in the entire MG product lineup for the Thai market in the near future. The development of the ‘inkaNet’ system was based on cutting-edge innovation, specialized expertise and experience honed from the global automotive market and detailed consumer insight. Therefore, we are confident that our customers will receive optimal benefits, especially in the areas of safety and convenience, which was derived from our state-of-the-art telematics technology that combines driver and car as a single entity,” said Mr. Wu Huan.

‘inkaNet’ is an intelligent communications system on mobile network that “connects” the MG driver and MG car. The T-Box is a telematics unit built into the MG car, which serves as a medium to enable smooth communication between the driver and the car.  This system was first developed and introduced by SAIC Motor in 2010 for MG cars in major car markets such as China. Since then, the system has been continually improved with new functions added. From real-time entertainment functions in the beginning, this version of inkaNet launched in Thailand has included navigation and safety functions.

Key main page features of the inkaNet include My Vehicle, Showroom (where MG product catalogues and test drive requests can be accessed), and Personal Centre for registration and pin code settings.

My Vehicle features cover safety and navigation. Highlights are Real-time Vehicle Monitoring that helps owner monitor the vehicle position whenever and wherever. In case your MG car is stolen, the system will be able to track the exact position of the car, in addition to facilitating local law enforcement authorities to apprehend the car thief.

Remote Vehicle Diagnosis is another key feature that provides a platform for detecting vehicle error and other technical problems relating to the vehicle. This feature not only provides customers with added convenience but also reduces the chances of accident occurring.

Vehicle Alarm is an important feature that is aware of any problems related to hardware, such as abnormal car movement, or engine ignition start…etc. This feature provides increased convenience and enhanced safety factors for the MG driver by allowing him or her to monitor vehicle status and exact vehicle location. Vehicle Status Update allows the MG driver to view key vehicle data on their Smartphone or computer screen -- mileage, fuel level, door status, vehicle location…etc. Remote Vehicle Controlling is another feature that delivers greater convenience for the driver to remotely lock/unlock doors or find their car in a large parking lot via the illumination of frontal headlights.

Other features include a navigation system that reports the exact position of the MG driver and MG car, POI (Point of Interest), and recommends the best route to the point of interest.

MG car owners will have to register their cars and themselves for security. They can also have access to inkaNet through three channels – smartphone, computer and Call Center.

“inkaNet” is a most unique innovation that MG developed from years of R&D, innovation, customer insight accumulated from MG’s extensive in-house database. inkaNet is a reflection and testament to MG’s Brit Dynamic concept, which embodies design, performance, handling and safety – all bundled together in what MG describes as a great driving experience second to none. inkaNet represents the long-term commitment of MG to Thailand’s automotive industry. Both SAIC Motor-CP and MG want to be outstanding corporate citizens in Thai society,” said Mr. Wu Huan.
